• The sexual harassment of women at workplace (prevention, prohibition and redressal) act 2013 is an act to provide protection against sexual harassment of women at work place.
• Sexual harassment results in the violation of basic fundamental rights of women such as Right to equality under article 14, 15 and her right to live with dignity under article 21 of the constitution of India.

PREAMBLE

• In accordance with guidelines from the Supreme Court and UGC, and as mandated by the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition &Redressal) Act, 2013,Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman College of Engineering has established an Internal Complaints Committee (Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell).

• Arulmigu Meenakshi Amman College of Engineering is committed to providing a secure and supportive environment for female students and women employees, achieving this goal with zero complaints.

• The ICC at the institution is responsible for formulating principles and procedures to address sexual harassment issues.

• The ICC actively promotes gender equality, eliminates bias and discrimination, and addresses sexual harassment and other forms of gender-based violence through awareness programs and campaigns for the benefit of all members of the institution

The College’s Internal Complaints Committee addresses the grievances filed in a confidential and sensitive manner.

• Receive the complaints of sexual harassment

• Initiate the inquiry and submit the findings from the inquiry done.

• Direct the employer to undertake required actions.

• Submit an annual report in the prescribed format.

  • As per the guidelines of UGC, NAAC and the Supreme Court, the College has established the Internal Complaints Committee for the effective enforcement of basic human rights of gender equality and assurance of an environment to be free from sexual harassment and abuses. communicate their accomplishments, interests, and concerns, etc.
  • Prevents discriminations, gender, caste and other inequalities against women by creating awareness.
  • Spreads social awareness through street plays, marathons etc.
  • Promptly and confidentially deals with the cases of any sexual harassment and abuses in the campus and taking necessary steps against the accused.
  • Provide assistance if an employee or a student chooses to file a complaint with the police;
  • Provide mechanisms of dispute redressal and dialogue to anticipate and address issues through just and fair conciliation without undermining complainant’s rights, and minimize the need for purely punitive approaches that lead to further resentment, alienation or violence;
  • Protect the safety of the complainant by not divulging the person’s identity, and provide the mandatory relief by way of sanctioned leave or relaxation of attendance requirement or transfer to another department or supervisor as required during the pendency of the complaint, or also provide for the transfer of the offender;
  • Ensure that victims or witnesses are not victimized or discriminated against while dealing with complaints of sexual harassment;
  • Ensure prohibition of retaliation or adverse action against a covered individual because the employee or the student is engaged in protected activity.

ICC is to ensure the implementation of the policy in letter and spirit through proper reporting of the complaints and their follow-up procedures.

• To develop healthy and safe atmosphere for the staff and students of the College and to prevent sexual harassment or exploitation of any kind.

• To create an awareness among the staff and students on sexual harassment in its various forms.

• To lay down the Policy measures and procedures to combat sexual harassment, if any arises, and the students are made aware of these proactive measures through seminars and outreach programs

• To uphold the commitment of the Institute to provide an environment free of gender based discrimination.

• To provide a conducive environment and congenial atmosphere for women staff and students.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Chair Person:

  • The Chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) leads the committee in addressing complaints related to harassment and discrimination.
  • They oversee the investigation process, ensure confidentiality, and facilitate meetings while promoting a safe environment
  • The Chairperson also ensures compliance with legal standards, provides support to complainants, and implements recommendations to improve workplace culture.
  • Chairperson develops and implements awareness initiatives to educate employees on harassment policies, promote dignity and acceptance, and encourage open dialogue.
  • Their role is essential in fostering a respectful and inclusive workplace.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Coordinator:

  • The Coordinator of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) manages the administrative functions of the committee. This includes receiving complaints, maintaining confidentiality, and organizing meetings.
  • They assist in the investigation process by collecting relevant information and ensuring proper documentation.
  • The Coordinator also provides support to both complainants and committee members, facilitating clear communication and adherence to procedures.
  • The Coordinator plays a key role in implementing awareness programs by helping develop training materials and facilitating sessions to educate employees on harassment policies.
  • Their role is essential in ensuring the ICC operates smoothly and effectively promotes a safe workplace.

Roles and Responsibilities of Faculty Members:

  • Faculty members in the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) play a crucial role in fostering a safe and inclusive campus culture
  • They manage complaints related to harassment and discrimination with confidentiality and sensitivity, assisting in investigations by gathering relevant information and collaborating with committee members
  • Additionally, faculty members develop and lead awareness programs that educate the community on harassment policies, diversity, and inclusivity
  • They serve as mentors, guiding students and colleagues on their rights and the complaint process while ensuring adherence to institutional policies..
  • By providing feedback for improvement and promoting awareness of ICC resources, faculty members contribute significantly to a respectful and supportive environment

  • Student members of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) actively participate in addressing complaints related to harassment and discrimination by providing valuable insights and perspectives.
  • They also help raise awareness of policies and resources within the student community, fostering a culture of respect and safety on campus.
  • Student members of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) contribute to awareness programs by engaging their peers in discussions about harassment policies, rights, and resources, promoting a safe and inclusive campus environment.
